You've probably noticed a cheeky little catchphrase we use here at Spruce Apothecary to describe the products and offerings we have here at our store and in our spa rooms. When we say something is "Spruce Approved," there's a lot more behind that phrase than meets the eye.
In our industry of holistic health and wellness, a lot of terms are thrown around to make products and practices appear to be more green than they are. You might be familiar with this as "greenwashing," a way for the media to present something as more healthy, holistic, and/or safe for you and your body. We do our best at Spruce to thoroughly (and I mean thoroughly) test, study and research everything that passes through our doors so that by the time that it makes it on our shelves they are 100% ensured to be something we feel proud and confident to recommend to you.
So why do we do this? Simply put, we believe everyone will benefit from intentionality in their daily routines. We believe that smaller makers need to be uplifted and showcased. Makers who represent marginalized communities ought to be supported and championed as well. Our co-founder Jenn Kenner was interviewed in the digital journal The Recipe for Being Well and mentions what inspired the foundation of Spruce Apothecary:
I was always more into organic products and natural skincare, but about 11 years ago, it became much more important to me when I became incredibly sick and was subsequently diagnosed with Chronic Lyme Disease. I was forced to do a deep dive into everything I was consuming, everything I was putting in and on my body, and using in my home. Despite deeply struggling to claim back my health, I learned so much from my many doctors and healers, I felt like I could have earned a degree in wellness. Ultimately, I learned that I was my own greatest healer, and wanted to empower others to do the same, in whatever health circumstances they are facing.
Whether or not one struggles with chronic illness, autoimmune disorder, or what-have-you, everyone certainly benefits from surrounding themselves (inside and out!) with good, pure, consciously-crafted things.

Spending time working alongside the estheticians and chatting extensively with clients and shoppers about gifting ideas has set the team up for success when it comes to intentional gifting.
