With Father’s Day around the corner and a few other holidays creeping up on us, we’ve noticed a few folks have been asking us questions online and in-store about if our offerings here at Spruce Apothecary are for everyone or not. The self-care and skincare world’s marketing has largely been targeting women and femme audiences. There’s a reason why so many folks who don’t identify that way feel lost and confused when it comes to self-care and in particular skincare. We all have skin, we all have unique bodies, taking care of them is so so important for both our mental and physical health.
So we’re here to clear up some of your FAQs right here and now.
1. Can men get facials too?
We’re so happy you asked. YES, emphatically YES, facials are for EVERYONE. We often are asked what the difference between a 45, 60, and 75 minute facial is and really truly it all is a case-by-case basis. Based off of what your skin needs and what you’re looking to address, each of our estheticians will cater their service for your skin for a 100% unique experience. Whether you have younger, wiser, dryer, oily, congested, sensitive, or perfectly healthy skin or some combination of ALL of those things - we all have skin and can absolutely benefit from a treatment.
2. What about my facial hair?
Ok so you’ve got a big thick beard and/or a mustache in the way. There really isn’t truly any way the esthetician can get past your beard to get to work with your skin underneath (and you certainly don’t want to deal with washing a mask out of there), BUT they will certainly focus their efforts on the rest of your face, neck, décolleté, and scalp (yes that means scalp massages!!!). Your facial hair won’t be neglected, but we’re talking about your skin here my friends so just know they will be investing 100% of their energy in to the skin they are able to work on.
3. Should I shave before my appointment?
Oh goodness gracious NO, please do not shave right before your appointment! You’re welcome to do so 48 hours beforehand, but if you shave too soon before your service your fresh baby skin will be too sensitive and you most likely will have a bad reaction to our products. You are absolutely welcome to trim your hair, but don’t change up your facial hair on our account - we’ll absolutely work on your beautiful face and skin exactly as you come!
Skincare goes much deeper than the surface, our clients find solace and resolve when they’re allowing themselves to be taken care of in a way that they haven’t before. Think about how often you really touch your face… it’s often timid, or rushed. Maybe it’s only for a fleeting moment before we move along with our day. Trusting someone and allowing them to help to care for you is a big step for many of us, but we promise that as soon as you open yourself up to the experience you’ll find respite and healing you haven’t experienced before.
