Friends, family, customers, and clients:
We have spent the past week collectively and individually protesting, listening, learning, and unlearning. Some resources we recommend and folks we recommend following: @thegreatunlearn and @rachel.cargle, @mspackyetti, @theconsciouskid, @15percentpledge, and so many more- we saved the resources we posted to our Instagram stories this past week under our BLM highlight on Instagram, including Black women and folks in the wellness sphere and Black owned restaurants and cafes here in Seattle that you can support.
We are striving to do better as a business. Our founders Jenn and Tiann took the time this week to re-evaluate how we do business and how we can make everything that we do be better for the Black community. We are never going to stop educating ourselves and we will put all that we learn into action. We are going to be doing equity and inclusion training for our staff. We will post more information regarding this to Instagram once it is organized.
We will be donating 30% of sales this weekend (from Friday 6/12 through Sunday 6/14) to The Loveland Foundation and Black Lives Matter Seattle-King County. These are two organizations that we truly believe in and support as a team. The Loveland Foundation was founded by Rachel Cargle, it has a focus on Black women and girls, they prioritize access, validation, and healing. They have a therapy fund to provide access to therapy for Black women and girls nationally. The Black Lives Matter Seattle-King County organization centers leadership on Black femmes, womxn, and queer people organizing and taking direct action to dismantle anti-black systems and policies of oppression through advocacy and direct action.
Another action step that we are taking as a staff is a commitment to community service. Of course, we cannot gather in large groups due to the COVID19 crisis, but as soon as we are able to we will be implementing community service into our business. Stay tuned - more details to come!
We are re-evaluating how we stock our shelves. While we currently have a dedication to carrying womxn owned, POC owned, and Queer owned businesses, we want to add additional focus into specifically carrying Black owned businesses. We have discovered so many incredible lines this past week, and we can’t wait to share that with you. If you have any suggestions, please let us know- you can always contact us via Instagram DM's and email.
We are sharing this all with you here today on our journal as a reminder that this is not a moment but is a MOVEMENT. This is ongoing. This wasn’t just a week for us. The fight for justice and the steps to be anti-racist are not something that you “complete” by reading and donating- this is a lifelong dedication. We share this all to hold ourselves accountable. This is not the last you will hear from us on this as we are committed to fighting for equality as a business!
Thank you for your support!
